5 Tips To Own Your Style – 2017 Men’s Resolutions

5 Ways To Improve Your Style in 2017

We at Cheap-Neckties believe in the power of goals! We’re here to help guide you as you plan out your style for 2017. Here are 5 ways to help narrow down your fashion vision for the year while still taking steps forward. Cheers to what’s ahead!

1. Purge + Simplify

More than ever consumers are feeling the kickback of purchasing in excess. Closets are full but the desired style is still lacking. Take the time to go through your closet this January and throw out items you haven’t worn in months. Don’t hold onto basic items you wear once a year. Declutter your crowded closet (and mind) by minimizing your options.

2. Invest

Having a tailor or investing in a tailored suit hasn’t been a priority for recent generations. Not until you have your first tailored suit will you appreciate the difference. Take the time this year to source out the best tailor in your area and pay the pretty penny for the best suit of your life. Follow this up by staying in shape to keep up your size – but that’s a different resolution.

3. Find Your Lane

Part of growing your style is beginning to pinpoint your fashion strengths and weaknesses and what looks best on your body type. Identify the pieces you wear well and make you feel confident. Dive further into those specific areas so your personal style and brand becomes apparent to others. Avoid jumping from trend to trend.

4. Accessorize

We’re all for accessories. The trick is to know what, and how much. You never want to over accessorize but should feel free to include pieces that will individualize your style. Make sure to have the menswear basics – neckties and pocket squares. If this is already your norm, try adding a tie bar or lapel pin. These items can easily take a look to the next level without breaking the bank and doing a full 180 on a wardrobe.

5. Take Time For One New Trend

As the seasons change, new trends come and go. The classics in men’s fashion will always be in style, but this year take the time to try out one new trend instead of every shift that comes your way. Be grounded in your personal style but don’t be afraid to infuse other influences once in awhile.

Invest in three pairs of chinos in navy, tan and walnut.

Thanksgiving is a week away and most of us are plotting our travel strategies. Keep it simple this season and pack light without giving up your aesthetic ideals. Be sure to pack some key essentials to go with your warm weather basics. We recommend a patterned wool bow tie (they don’t wrinkle and they take up no space) and a white pocket square.  To keep your packing at a minimum, stick to a cohesive color palette so that every item you include can be rotated in and out without clashing.

Happy Holidays and Safe Travels!

Mens Fall Fashion Tips

Three Simple Wardrobe Tips to Get Ready for Fall

mens-fall-fashion-tips-2011It is already October and if you have been in denial that summer is over, then hints like Halloween decorations and Thanksgiving advertisements might give you a wake up call that summer is in fact over, and that we are in the midst of Fall. To avoid this surprise in regards to your wardrobe, we are giving you a few simple tips that will get you prepared for the colder days in Fall and early Winter.

Organize
Yes, you read right. We do indeed suggest that you organize your clothes by season. Days in the Fall are colder and often times wetter. Store away your seersucker summer suits, sandals, shorts, and pastel colored dress shirts and make room for overcoats, gloves, hats, scarves, warm tweed blazers, and so on. Besides taking out thinner and lighter fabric summer clothes for thicker ones, you may also want to think about colors. The Fall typically calls for more muted color shades on suits, ties, dress shirts, and so on. Thus, if you have limited closet space, you may want to consider storing away your ties in pink, lime green, bright orange and other lighter summer colors and replace them with ties in burgundy, brown, gray, burnt orange, darker greens, amber, and so on.

Shoe Care
As we approach the wetter Fall season you may want to consider protecting your expensive dress shoes with water repellant spray. Clean your shoes first and spray on two to three thin coats of especially made water repellant shoe spray. Also, should your dress shoes have a leather sole, then you may want to bring them to a cobbler to add a thin rubber sole. Not only will a rubber pad glued to the leather sole prevent water from soaking through the leather, but it will also add more warmth, and will give you more traction on slippery wet or icy surfaces. Accessories
Every season opens the doors for new clothing pieces. If you want to avoid the expense of buying a trendy tweed overcoat, then accessories like mohair hats, cashmere scarves, or fine leather gloves will add style and comfort without emptying your pockets. Since we at Cheap-Neckties.com specialize in men’s ties, you may also want to consider adding a few seasonal neckties to your Fall wardrobe. Ties in burgundy, burnt orange, dark navy, gray, hunter green, and amber-yellow are excellent colors for the Fall business look.

Closet Cleaning Tips

Stylish Closet Cleaning: What to Give Away

You probably don’t like doing it, but you have to get around to cleaning out your closet at least once in a while. But once you open those doors and look at what you’ve got, you’ll realize that there’s one very big question to answer: which should you throw out? While you want less congestion, you don’t want to discard any potentially wearable pieces.

What to Junk
There are clothes that are distressed, the ones that look cool and comfortable and grungy no matter what you wear them with. And then there are clothes that are simply tattered beyond the bounds of being fashionable. Guys are much more often guilty of keeping this kind of closet junk than are girls, so it’s time to make your closet an exception.

Start with pants and shorts, where this kind of destruction can more frequently be seen. Frayed hems are fine for casual pieces, but ‘frayed’ is very different from ‘worn out and trailing bits of fabric all over’. If you can see the material trailing all over your knees or shoes, it’s time to either have the piece repaired or dispose of it altogether.

Contrary to popular belief, ripped jeans are not stylish, even on the most haute couture of styles. No well-groomed man should ever step out in dilapidated jeans. If your jeans have holes larger than two fingers’ width, ditch ’em. And even then, the pairs with smaller rips should be worn only when you’re working your best RENT-worthy starving artist outfit.

Ill-fitting clothes should also be on the Discard list, although clothes that are too big can still be salvaged by sending them to your nearest tailor. Too-small clothes, however, will never be stylish, and are best dealt with by giving to someone who’ll actually fit in them.

Shopping mistakes happen to everyone. You might have gotten a Hawaiian print shirt or some abstract design tee, only to discover how hideous it was upon getting home. Unless you want to save one for costume parties and Halloween, there’s no point in hanging on to the consequences of your errors. Discard them and move on.

What to Keep
Just because something is old never necessarily means that the item is ugly or outdated. That’s an error a lot of style-oblivious guys commit, and in the process throw out many perfectly good and wearable pieces.

Classics, first and foremost, should never be discarded unless they become unattractively threadbare or excessively worn. That’s why the navy blazer you’ve had since college or the black polo shirt your girlfriend gave you as an anniversary gift shouldn’t be on your Discard list just because they’re old. In some cases, it’s the age that even gives the pieces a certain character that store-bought items rarely match.

Accessories are another area where you should find few things to give away. The style of the modern man is becoming increasingly dependent on accessories like necklaces and bracelets. There’s no way for you to have too many necklaces, watches, bracelets, ties and all these little things that can complete a look. If you find that they’re cluttering up your closet, simply arrange them into a neater container instead of giving them away outright.

Graphic tees, if you’re the kind of guy whose style involves them, also age very well for clothing. In fact, there’s very often a premium placed on graphic tees that have acquired some years in active use. If you have some three- or four-year old graphic tees, don’t junk them just yet. In a couple more years, they’ll be as precious (and stylish) as gold.

When it comes to closet cleaning, a lot of guys don’t have a very good sense of what can work with their style and what never will. That’s why they end up throwing perfectly good pieces or hang on to some truly hideous ones in the process. When considering each item, just remember to think about how it could possibly work for your style, and if it has a certain value added that you won’t be able to get at boutiques.
