Fashion Trivia: The Story About The Fedora Hat

One of the most classic hats of the 20th century is the fedora. Although, this style of hat had its high-times in the 1920s, the style has recently found a rebirth in contemporary men’s fashion. Almost every designer recently has featured a fedora hat in one of their recent runway shows.

The fedora hat has not always been an accessory for men. In fact, the fedora was first worn by women in the late 19th century. This style of hat didn’t become popular until it was featured in the French play “Fedora”. The plays main actress, Princess Fedora, wore a hat very similar to the fedora we know today.

Men didn’t discover the fedora hat until the 1920s. At that point the fedora was, just like the suit and tie, part of the businessman’s outfit. Later on, in the 1940s, the fedora was commonly associated with Italian gangsters.
