What is New This Spring Season in Men's Fashion?

Say what you will about trends in the fashion industry; love them or hate them, they’re always going to come around. While there are certainly plenty of trends that come about that should never have existed in the first place, some shifts in fashion happen for a reason, and thus hold quite a bit of staying power. This is especially true in the Spring, as the influx of warm weather tends to shake things up in the industry and cause quite a bit of change. While it’s always wise to be leery of new trends, the following are just a few recent shifts in the industry that show quite a bit of promise, and may even be worth working towards implementing into your own look.

Exceptionally Bold Colors
Bold colors certainly made themselves quite apparent on the runway in spring 2011, but it’s safe to say that they’re even more present in men’s fashion this year. Hues that were once used only for accents are now meant specifically to be focused on; think bright and bold oranges, goldenrod and pea-green, all of which tend to be viewed by a lot of men as being exceptionally difficult to wear effectively. That said, exceptionally bold colors can be very attractive when worn correctly; try pairing them with a double-breasted black or navy blue peacoat, which can add the perfect amount of contrast. Finish the ensemble off with black dress shoes and you’ll be sure to turn heads when walking down the busy city streets.

Boxy Suits
With so much focus on “fit,” it’s not uncommon for modern men to focus mainly on wearing suits that are form-fitting. That said, boxy suits are beginning to make a comeback, and are quite a bit more popular than they were in the past. The suits that are beginning to make waves in 2012 tend to be fairly loose, yet remain clean at the same time. When accentuated correctly, these types of suits can be quite attractive.

“Dirty” Whites
White is omnipresent in men’s fashion; so much so that many people are beginning to swear it off. Rather than sticking to the clean shades of white that are so common in the industry, fashion-forward men are looking at “dirty” off-whites in order to accentuate the ensembles that they are already wearing. Bone, or off-white can add a more subtle contrast than the bleachy-style whites that are so commonly worn by men in the business-casual world, and can be incorporated into an ensemble either as an accent or a focal piece.

Wider Pants
Skinny trousers have been popular in men’s fashion for many years, but those who pay attention are starting to see that things are beginning to change. Pants that walk the runway are starting to become much wider than in recent years. Wide pants don’t have to be sloppy the way many people think they might be; they can be dramatic, and even head-turning. Whether separate or part of a suit, wide pants are surely poised to make a big appearance in the spring of 2012.
