The Story of the Paisley
The paisley is a century old pattern that originated in India during the 16th century, and was a popular pattern to decorate fabrics, wall coverings, wooden carvings, and ceramics. The paisley is a depictures of a young lotus palm shoot – an ancient Indian symbol for a healthy life and fertility. Eventually, the paisley pattern made it into the western world after British imperialism in India. It was first used as a popular pattern to decorate wall coverings, luxurious upholstery (often incorporating golden threads), and also clothing. When it comes to men’s fashion, the paisley pattern is most popular on smaller accessories and accent pieces such as neckties, pocket squares, silk shirts, as well as lining for shirt collars, cuffs, and sports coats.

How to Match the Paisley Tie
Because the paisley is a bold and loud pattern (especially when in multiple colors and larger scale), it is best matched with subtle dress shirts as well as suits or sports jackets. The white dress shirt is always a go-to basic piece for the paisley patterned tie. Our tip: pick a solid colored dress shirt that takes up some of the lighter colors on the necktie. A cherry red necktie with light blue paisleys for instance looks excellent when worn on top of a pastel blue dress shirt.
