Our Summer Collection of Light Blue Ties is Here

light-blue-ties-cheap-neckties

The new spring & summer collections are in! Last week we received two shipments of two our favorite designers’ summer collections. Light pastel tones such as pink, mint-green, light yellows, and blues are especially popular. We noticed that both designers put a lot of emphasis on turquoise, mint-green, and light blues. In total we have received over 2 dozen new light blue neckties – ranging from classy textured solids (herringbone, repp, and grenadine), to more elaborate paisleys and polka dots. Here are three of our favorite new styles.

Three Must-Have Suit Styles Any Man Should Own

Three Suit Styles Every Man Should Have in His Wardrobe

Not all suits are created equal. Minor differences in cut, the use of different fabrics and patterns, and different colors allow for almost endless styles. If you are a bit tired of the “same old suit look”, then this guide is for you. Below we feature three suit styles that any man could benefit from.

The Classic Business Suit
The classic business suit is probably the piece you will be wearing the most. It is the piece that will help you nail your job interview, or make a positive impression when giving a business presentation. It is classic, elegant, timeless, and rather traditional than fashion-forward. The classic business suit should be darker in color (midnight blue, dark gray, or charcoal), should have a classic cut, and should be pretty simplistic in pattern. Choose a suit that compliments your body type, meaning men with a more lean or athletic build should opt for fitted suits and straight cut pants, while larger men are better of wearing a straight cut jacket and single-pleat pants. Standard notch lapels should be preferred, and the width of the lapels should be in proportion to your body type (fitted suits usually have narrower lapels).

Light Colored Summer Suit
During the sunny days, dark colored wool suits are not only uncomfortable, but they are also slightly inappropriate. Luckily there are specific warm-weather suits that typically feature a lighter color and thinner/more breathable fabric. Linen and cotton suits are perfect non-business events such as weddings, while thinner tan colored wool suits are preferably for the office. Below are tow popular styles of summer suits (one for business, and one for leisure).

tan-color-summer-suit-orange-tie
Cream and light browns are the perfect colors for summer suits. Fine and light wools are more suited for business while cotton and linen are more casual and less suited for professional settings.

The Somewhat Different Suit
For those seeking a somewhat different look, one that makes you stand out in a positive way, we got two other excellent choices. The first one is a well-tailored double-breasted suit. DB suits are no longer boxy and 1980s-like in appearance, but instead rather fashionable. The key lies in proper tailoring and a perfect fit. Most double breasted suits feature a peak lapel style that is just slightly wider than the notch lapels found on your suit. The uber-wide peak lapels are typically something of the past.

This midnight blue suit is the perfect example that the double-breasted cut is no longer something from yesterday. The key lies in perfect tailoring! (featured by blogger Edwardshair.net)

If the double breasted suit is not your cup-of-tea, then try a 3-piece suit instead consisting of pants, vest, and jacket. Again, proper tailoring is important here! The nice think about 3-piece suits, is that you can wear them with or without vest – making them even that much more versatile. To compliment the GQ’ish look of the 3-piece, choose a subtle fabric pattern such as light pin-stripes, subtle checks, or a trendy herringbone.

Our Top 5 Most Popular Pink Ties

We Took a Look at Our Best Selling Pink Neckties – Here is Our Top 5 List

pink-neckties-most-popular
Pink ties are always a hot seller come early spring. This bright and lively color is the perfect accessory for the sunny days. Pink ties also happen to match perfectly with most summer suits. We at Cheap-Neckties took a closer look at all the pink ties we have sold since the beginning of the year. Here we present our five most popular pink neckties to you (in order of popularity).

cerise-pink-tie#1: Bright Cerise-Pink Tie
At the top of our “most popular pink tie list”, is this bright fuchsia piece by designer Puccini. Customers have told us that they love the bright color paired with the simplicity of the solid color design. While we are not surprised that this is a popular tie, we think that the great price of just $5 is a big contributor to its popularity. We now also offer this tie in kids length, XL length, and even matching pocket square.

navy-pink-striped-tie#2: Navy & Pink Striped Tie
On 2nd place on our “best selling pink ties of 2013 list” is this navy and rose design by Puccini. The combination of repp stripe (navy) and the satin silk (pink) creates a nice contrast. It is a perfect blend of traditional design with fun colors. To match this piece we especially like navy suits or blazers, white dress shirts, and a matching pink pocket square. We at Cheap-Neckties offer this popular pink tie for just $10 each.

solid-pink-striped-tie#3: Monochromatic Pink Stripe Tie
That tie designer Puccini dominates our pink tie selection is shown yet again with their single colored striped tie in light rose and pink. The two-tone stripe effect is created by switching the weaving direction of one single color pink yarn. It is a perfect piece for suits in gray, navy, and tan. It is also a perfect piece for popular summer suits made from linen or seersucker. Available here at Cheap-Neckties for just $10 each.

pink-black-striped-tie#4: Black & Pink Striped Tie
If you can’t decide on an exact shade of pink, then this striped tie by Puccini may be perfect. The designer uses five different (but complementary) shades of pink in a narrow striped design, woven onto a solid black background. The result: a fun and unique piece that best pairs with suits in the gray to black color range. Available for just $10 each.

pink-grenadine-tie#5: Grenadine Texture Tie in Rose-Pink
This pink tie is part of a new, so-called “Grenadine”, collection by Puccini. Even though we just added this tie to our site a few weeks ago, it didn’t take long for it to become a top seller. What makes this tie stand out is the fabric texture known as Grenadine weave. This unique fabric gives the tie a matte sheen, thick texture, and a very luxurious feel. It is hard to believe that this tie is only $10 each.

#10 Holiday Style Gifts for Him: Jeans

Stylish Holiday Gifts for Him – #10 of 10: Jeans

johan-lindberg-jeans-mensIf there’s one item that men who have a strong interest in fashion will enjoy receiving this holiday season, it’s a pair of jeans. The right pair can serve as the perfect accent to practically any ensemble accent, so long as it is relatively casual in nature. Quality jeans don’t need to be expensive, either, as many people often think they must be. Designer jeans are more popular now than ever before, which has helped to drive the price down a bit given the fact that major brands are now producing them. If you’re looking to give someone a gift they’ll truly enjoy for the holidays, consider the following tips for shopping for the perfect pair of men’s designer jeans.

What to Look For
The first thing you’ll want to do when looking for the right pair of designer jeans is to throw out any misconceptions you might have about having to spend a great deal of money on a single pair. It’s perfectly possible to find a pair of designer jeans for under $100, although you’ll want to take the time to look them over for quality. Elaborate pocket stitching, for example, is typically preferred in a pair of designer jeans. Pairs that also combine small amounts of spandex material can be exceptionally comfortable, and are worth looking for. Finally, consider the cut. Skinny jeans should be avoided when shopping for another person; go with a relaxed fit for best results, and because fit is everything, make sure to ask for a gift receipt at the register.

Best Piece of 2012
When it comes to jeans, it’s difficult to find a better producer at the moment than John Lindeberg. His brand BLK DNM is putting out some of the best jeans on the market, all for prices that are relatively affordable in comparison to other high-end producers. BLK DNM’s straight legged jeans are constructed out of 100% cotton and feature a relatively dark wash; perfect for pairing with many different ensemble elements. Their buttoned fly helps them to stand out dramatically, and the straight fit is ideal for most people with average builds. Perhaps best of all is that these jeans hover around $100, making them one of the best deals in the industry.

Some Style Tips
Jeans are beloved for the fact that they can be paired with practically any type of ensemble element. In the winter, they look best with a quality vest, sweater or cardigan, and boots. Once the cooler temperatures fade away, however, they can look fantastic when paired with a blazer and fitted graphic tee. Jeans can even be paired with a trendy skinny ties. Needless to say, a pair of denims is one of the most versatile clothing piece a man has in his wardrobe.

Men’s Style Holiday Gifts 2012: The Crew Neck Sweater

Stylish Holiday Gifts for Him – #9 of 10: The Crew Neck Sweater

jcrew-cashmere-crew-neck-sweater-mensWith Christmas just a week away we decided to release our final two daily style gift ideas ahead of schedule. Earlier this morning we featured the Cardigan as the perfect gift. Right along with this clothing piece comes another sweater style, the Crew Neck, that we decided to feature as our 9th gift idea. Crew necks are truly timeless. They are a classic clothing piece adding warmth and style at the same time. Because it is such a versatile piece, we decided to feature it on our Top10 gift series. Here are all the things you need to know about shopping for the perfect men’s crew neck sweater this Holiday season.

What to Look For
There are more than a few things you’ll want to be thinking about when shopping for a crew neck sweater, some of which often get overlooked. The three main things you should look for are: fabric, fit, and color. In terms of fabric, choose a natural material such as cashmere or merino wool. Both give warmth without adding extra bulk. Natural fabrics are more expensive than synthetics – a well-worth-it investment, when considering their comfort and warmth. When it comes to fit, think about his physique. The tightness of the collar, for example, must be taken into consideration if the person you’re shopping for has anything but a skinny neck. Fit is everything, also; some crew necks are “fitted” which are unflattering on men with a belly or stocky built. Last but not least think about color. Simple, solid colored crew-necks made from quality natural fabrics are best. Especially dark blues, grays, brownish earth-tones, charcoal, and black are most versatile.

Best Piece of 2012
With so many different pieces to choose from in 2012, it’s not exactly easy to come up with one piece that stands dramatically apart from the rest. Still, J.Crew’s cashmere crew neck sweater is a perfect choice. It is simple, classic, versatile, and elegant. It also comes in four colors (black, charcoal, navy, and the red color shown on the top). Please keep in mind that this sweater has a fitted cut which is most flattering on men that don’t have a belly. Maybe this could be the trick to get him to burn off the pounds he put on over the Holidays…

Crew Neck Sweater Style Tips
Crew neck sweaters are relatively easy to incorporate into ensembles, as they are typically inoffensive and don’t tend to stand out. A simple layer of a t-shirt underneath can be effective, and these sweaters look great when paired with khaki pants and dress shoes. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that crew neck sweaters can clash with pants when the color combinations are wrong. As a result, you’ll want to always be sure that the colors chosen do not clash; avoid those which are close in shade to one another, as clashing often occurs in such a scenario.

Holiday Gift Guide – Style Gifts for Men – Gift Idea 8 of 10: Cardigans

Stylish Holiday Gifts for Men – #8 of 10: The Cardigan Sweater

Denims-mens-Campalli-cardiganWe have already featured style pieces like cufflinks, dress boots, watches, and wallets on our Holiday gift guide. This time around we are focusing on a classic clothing piece that will not just a warming layer to his wardrobe, but will also earn him plenty of style points. We are talking about the cardigan sweater. In 2012 cardigans have gained a huge popularity in men’s fashion – a trend that is likely to continue throughout 2013. Cardigans are versatile enough to incorporate into a wide range of looks and styles, they are super comfortable, and they don’t even have to be expensive, making them the perfect Holiday style gift any man would appreciate. Consider the following tips on what to look for in a cardigan, how to accessorize with them, and which piece is the best on the market.

What to Look For
There are a variety of things you’ll want to take into consideration when shopping for the perfect cardigan. For one, you’ll do best to find those that are made out of high-quality wool; merino wool is a popular material used in cardigans, as is cashmere. Color is important as well,; avoid those which are exceptionally bright in color, as they tend to be relatively difficult to pair with other ensemble elements. Excellent are cardigans in colors gray, charcoal, dark navy, and brownish earthtones. Finally, remember that you don’t need to spend a fortune on a cardigan; sometimes “low-end” items are just as high in quality as those which cost hundreds of dollars.

Best Piece of 2012
2012 saw a fair amount of high quality cardigans hitting shelves. Life After Denim’s Campalli cardigan, for example, is one of the nicer pieces on the market, featuring season-appropriate greys and blues and a 4-button enclosure. Constructed out of a blend of cotton, poly and alpaca, it’s an extremely soft and comfortable piece that can be worn as part of a variety of ensembles. At $138, it’s certainly not a budget item, but it’s fair to say that any guy with a penchant for fashion would be happy to have this piece in their wardrobe.

Style Guide for Cardigans
Since cardigans typically feature relatively wide V-necks, they can be perfect for showing off a shirt underneath. Go with a graphic tee, or perhaps a simple striped fitted-tee for a more casual look. Want something a bit more dressy? Then pair the cardigan with a gingham check shirt, dark wash jeans, and dress shoes. Still not formal enough? Then simply add a tie to this look and swap the jeans for a pair of black dress pants.

Depending upon the weather, you can choose to wear your cardigan either with jeans or khakis; jeans is preferable, although it can be a chilly combination for those who live in exceptionally cold areas. Also, don’t hesitate to layer your cardigan underneath a jacket, which is an effective way to stay warm and still look good.

Holiday Style Gifts for Him – #7 of 10: The Classy Wrist Watch

Style Gift Idea #7 of 10: The Dressy Wrist Watch

patek-philippe-calatrava-white-gold-mensThus far we have featured six stylish gift ideas ranging from $10 to $500 in price. This time around our gift idea attention goes to a piece that might just become the most talked about family heirloom for generations to come. We are talking about a dressy wrist watch.

It is a gift that will not only help you to keep on top of the time, but it will also serve as one of the most effective accessories. It’s a common misconception that a high-quality watch must be expensive, but this is not always the case (although our featured piece below certainly is). As a result, the right watch can make the perfect holiday gift, even if you’re on a tight budget. Consider the following aspects of how to shop for a watch, all of which are worth thinking about before you head to the store.

What to Look For
When looking for the right watch, think about his wardrobe and lifestyle. Is he more of the outdoor, sporty type? Then a sturdy, slightly oversized watch made from a matte gunmetal could be perfect. Or does he like to dress up and does he wear a suit and tie to work each day? Then a sleeker and simpler design would be best suits. The choice in watches (both function and style) is endless. Think about his personal style first as this will narrow down the choices tremendously.

longines-master-chronograph-mensBest Piece of 2012
The “best” watch on the market can depend heavily upon personal preference (and budget), although there are some that truly stand apart from the crowd. If money no object, then Patek Philippe’s Calatrava watch (shown above) is a great choice. Not only extremely functional and attractive, but comes along with a fair amount of history as well. The design of this piece was originally unveiled in 1932, and while it has undergone a fair amount of changes over the years, it remains very similar in design as the original piece. It is certainly a bit ironic that we at Cheap-neckties, a site known for discount ties, is making a holiday gift suggestion costing in the five digit range, but this time piece is a true piece of art that will become a family heirloom for generations to come. For most people, including us here at Cheap-Neckties, this time piece is a out of reach. If you are looking for a more reasonable watch, that is stylish, elegant, and carries a very well respected brand label, then the Longiness Master Chronograph II (shown left) is perfect. It is truly a piece of art that will become an instant statement piece on a man’s outfit. Coming in at around 800 bucks it is actually a reasonable price considering the brand, the style, and the craftsmanship.

Watch Style Guide
Traditional sartorialists will tell you that a right handed man should wear the watch on his left, while a left handed person should wear it on the right. While it is not really a style faux pas should you choose to not follow this rule, there is some thought behind it. Take the $20,000 timepiece by Patel Phillippe for example. Would you really want to wear this piece on the side that gets used the most? The chances of scratching or scuffling increase quite a bit.

Another thing you want to consider is the color and material, as the color should be paired with whatever the most major ensemble element you’re wearing is. A silver watch paired with golden cufflinks can cause a disconnect – so can a black leather wrist band paired with brown shoes. Go with a darker watch when wearing a relatively dark ensemble, but don’t hesitate to experiment with a few different options. Last but not least, the simpler the design, the more formal the watch will appear. A heavy over sized chronograph worn for a black tie event might look a bit out of place, for instance. Remember that there are no cut and dry rules in fashion, and that experimentation is the key to finding a look that works for you.

Holiday Style Gifts for Him – #6 of 10: Boots

mccants-boots-call-it-springIf none of our previously featured men’s style gifts interest you, then maybe we will found the lucky winner with today’s suggestion of men’s dress boots. In the winter time, it’s difficult to find a better gift for fashion-forward men than a quality pair of these stylish footwear. The right boots can take any ensemble to the next level, and can help to keep one’s feet warm and dry during the colder months of the year. It may seem as if shopping for boots might be a difficult process, but there’s truly no reason to think that this is the case. So long as you know the person you’re shopping for relatively well, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to find the perfect boots for them. The following are just a few things to think about that can help you to better shop for boots this holiday season.

What to Look For
When shopping for a pair of boots, there are a few key things you’ll want to look for. For one, you should determine whether you’d prefer a pair of dress boots or winter boots. Dress boots tend to be more attractive, but aren’t always as functional as boots that are specifically meant to be worn during the snowy months of winter. Regardless of which option you take, however, you’ll want to look for boots that are constructed out of quality materials; leather, suede and water-resistant materials are all worth searching for. Finally, look for boots that are made by a well-known, reputable brand.

Best Piece of 2012
There are plenty of great boots to choose from in 2012, which can make the process of choosing a pair even more difficult than it might be otherwise. The McCants boot from “Call It Spring” (shown above) is exceptionally attractive, and is the perfect option for anyone who is looking for a dress boot that can stand up to the elements. Keep in mind that most men are not shoe aficionados and don’t need to own a dozen different pairs of both dressy and casual footwear. The McCants are the perfect blend of both worlds. They can be worn for casual business, a weekend stroll in the park, as much as for a hike in the woods. Constructed out of high-quality distressed leather, this boot can stand up against everything from a pair of khaki slacks to heavy winter pants. The price is also right as well at just under $100.

How to Wear It
Depending upon whether you buy winter boots or dress boots for someone, they can expect to wear them in a number of different ways. Winter boots can be paired with practically anything, as they are more about function than aesthetics. Dress boots, on the other hand, look best with business-casual ensembles, or perhaps a pair of dark-washed designer jeans. Slacks are best avoided when wearing dress boots, however, as they tend to be a bit too light.
