Travel Tips For Businessmen

From the time you pack your bags to the time you get to your hotel, traveling with a suit and tie is a race against the inevitable. Wrinkles happen; it's a fact of life and frequent travelers know better than anyone that unless they give careful consideration to the way they packed their clothing they will end up at their destination with a wrinkled mass of fabrics rather than sharp ready-to-wear articles of clothing. Below are some tips on how to pack and travel without getting your clothes wrinkled.

The Ideal Situation
If you are traveling under ideal situations a garment bag is your best option for traveling with a suits, dress shirts, and ties. Garment bags are relatively inexpensive nylon bags that allow you to hang your shirts and suits inside before tri-folding them. Besides keeping the clohtes wrinkle-free, they are quite convenient. It is recommended to hold off on folding the garment bag inside the suitcase until right before you leave to the airport. As soon as you arrive in your hotel, take the garment bag and hang it inside a closet. The time your suit and shirts spend folded inside a stuffed suitcase is kept to a minimum and your clohtes will look like they are straight from the dry-cleaner.

The Next Best Solution
If you do not have a garment bag, and don't have the time to buy one before your departure, then this option will work quite well. To protect your suit and dress shirt make sure everything is loosely folded in a stiff lined suitcase. Packing your clothes too tightly often times causes wrinkles. The few wrinkles that do occur usually remove themselves. It is recommended to take your shirts and suits out of the suitcase the moment you arrive at the hotel and place them onto a hanger. For even better results hang them in front of an open window, but away from direct sunlight. Still wrinkled? Then do the following: Take your dress shirts and hang them in the bathroom while taking a hot shower. The steam from the shower will steam the shirt and remove all wrinkles.

To keep your tie protected, it is a good idea is to loosely roll the tie as you would a belt and place it in one of your packed shoes. Obviously make sure that the shoe is clean first. This will work with one or two ties; however if you are going on an extended trip and have to pack many ties you probably won’t have enough shoes. In this event fold your ties in once from each end and pack them between soft pieces of clothing. This will help keep the silk protected and prevent wrinkles.

Basic Care Tips for Mens Dress Shoes

A nice pair of leather dress shoes can last years if they are cared for properly. Especially rain and snow can drastically shorten the life-span of your foot wear. Below are some basic care tips that will ensure your shoes will last a long time and always look like they are straight out of the shoe-box.

Shoe Winter Care
Leather is a natural material that needs care and protection just as our skin does. Especially rough conditions, such as excessive sun exposure and moisture can be quite damaging to leather. That's why it is especially important to protect the leather during the rainy and snowy winter months of the year. To protect your shoes, you should always spray upper and lower leather with a water repellent spray right after you buy them. During the rainy season repeat this treatment every few weeks. Before spraying the shoes, make sure they are clean and completely dry. Regular shoe polishing is also a must. Use a oil-wax based polish. It will not only shine your shoes, but will also prevent the leather from cracking. Finally make sure to dry your shoes with a towel after wearing them out in the rain to minimize the effect of water on the leather.

If you live in an area with heavier rain and snow fall, then you should consider buying season-specific dress shoes. On winter dress shoes, the leather is slightly thicker offering more protection and warmth. In addition, the shoe sole should be made out of rubber instead of leather. Rubber soles may not be as classy, but offer additional warmth, are much more resistant to water intrusion and damage, and offer a much better grip on wet surfaces.
