Tuesday, February 23. 2010Bradley Cooper in a 3-Piece SuitBradley Cooper Wearing a 3-Piece Suit on "The Late Show" TV and Movie start Bradley Cooper was spotted wearing a 3-Piece suit on Letterman's "Late Show" earlier this month. We at Cheap-Neckties enjoy to pick celebrities and then criticize as much as compliment on their outfits. Overall we were very impressed with Cooper's ensemble. It is classic and elegant, and at the same time relaxed and cool - perfect for his "bad boy womanizer" image. The solid charcoal suit gives the ensemble formal framing. The excellent shine of the fabric is immediately noticeable and we suspect that the suit is made from super-160s wool, or higher. In case you are unfamiliar with this, the number reflects how fine the wool is. The higher the number the finer the individual wool thread. Fabrics with a higher number have more shine and are softer, but also tend to wrinkle more easily and are more delicate. For business we suggest to wear suits of super-100 or super-120 wool. Higher counts are best for one time appearances, formal dinners, speeches, or, as chosen by Mr Cooper, for TV appearances. Cooper's suit has a modern European cut. It is tapered at the waist, has a 3-button single-breasted front, and has a slightly peaked lapel style. Instead of wearing a solid white dress shirt, Cooper opted for a light periwinkle blue. It creates a softer contrast to the dark gray suit which is perfect for Cooper's lighter complexion. The shirt has a medium collar spread, and the unbuttoned top creates a more relaxed and cool look. Finally there is the tie itself. The charcoal gray, solid color tie is a perfect match to the suit. It is elegant, modern, and stylish. To add to the relaxed look, Cooper decided to tie a slightly loose four in hand knot tie knot. If you like this tie, then we at Cheap-Neckties.com also carry an identical Charcoal Gray Necktie. Even though we are very pleased with Mr Cooper's ensemble we always find ways to improve the outfit. One thing worth mentioning is the cuff length on jacket and shirt. It appears that the cuffs on the jacket are a touch too short. We would like to see about 1/8 - 1/4 inch of dress shirt cuff when the arms hang straight down. Also worth noting is the tie knot. Our suggestion is to add a dimple into the knot. It adds a more textured look to the tie, gives the tie a better drape, and also helps reflect light for a brilliant shine. Finally, there is the vest. It appears that the vest is just a touch to snug. A too tightly fitted vest not only can be uncomfortable but it also causes the dress shirt to wrinkle in the chest area. Even though this tie is available in a dozen different color combinations we are only featuring the three brightest colors, the ones that are best suited for the upcoming spring and summer, in this post. What makes these ties so unique are the three different colors that are blended into one modern striped pattern. We have contacted our designers and requested that some of our best selling wedding ties are made in kids size. Besides the classic wedding colors such as champagne, cream, ivory, and white, we added some popular "spring colors" such as lime, sage, apricot, plum, fuchsia, and coral. Most of our kids neckties have a length between 46 and 48 inches. They are about 10 inches shorter than the normal length tie and typically fit kids between the ages 5 to 10 (or up to a height of 4 foot 11 inches). For taller kids we suggest our regular length ties. All our kids ties are also available in regular length, and in some cases, also in extra long length for the big and tall men. Whether the tie is skinny or wide, is pre-tied or self-tied, has stripes or an intricate paisley pattern - the idea and general look is the same. However, there are other types of neckwear found in mens fashion throughout the world. Below is a list of ties that are much less common in daily wear. The Ascot Nowadays, ascot ties are much less common. It is a type of neckwear that resembles a cross between a silk scarf and a classic necktie. When untied the ascot is much wider and shorter than a regular necktie. Also, instead of having one narrow, and one broad end, the ascot tie has two ends that are symmetrical and equal in size. The ascot originated during the end of the 19th century in England. The ascot was part of the required attire for the infamous British horse race "The Royal Ascot" - hence the name. Traditionally the ascot is worn with top hat and tails and is part of formal morning and/or daytime attire. Today the ascot is worn much more casual. Even though men still wear ascots with tailcoat jackets for formal daytime weddings for instance, it is most commonly worn in a much dressed down fashion. Modern ascots are tied much looser and resemble more of a tugged in scarf. While formal ascots are solid colored the more casual ascots show more color and patterns - such as paisleys or foulard. The Neck-Slip The neck slip is a hybrid between the regular necktie and the ascot. The neck-slip is worn very loosely and tucked into the dress shirt so that only the ring around the neck is visible. It is a great fashion accessory for the slightly older male. It looks great in combination with sports coat, blazer jacket, as well as with a classic smoking jacket. The Bandana The bandana is typically associated with cowboys and early railroad workers. It is the type of neckwear that is most associated with working class men than any other. Bandana's are usually made from cotton and were worn to protect the neck from the sun as well as to help absorb sweat. If you want to try wearing a bandana then we suggest to wear it with a cotton shirt and tug it into the shirt in a similar fashion as you would with the ascot. The Bolo Tie The bolo tie originated in Arizona in the mid 20th century. It is a decorative type of neckwear that consists of a braided leather string and an ornamental clasp. The bolo tie became the official tie of Arizona in 1971. It is usually worn with western wear such as tight denim jeans, cowboy boots, flannel shirt, western belt and belt buckle, and the cowboy hat. While the sartorialist may appreciate this classic and timeless ensemble, the fashion forward oriented male may think of classic black tie as too standardized and boring. Even though men going to black tie functions should adhere to the basics that make up the ensemble there are ways to create a more unique and personal look. Below are a few tips how to customize your black tie outfit.A Note on the Basics Black Tie means that you should dress in a tuxedo and a bow tie. Most common are solid black tuxedos, even though a dark midnight blue color is also acceptable. The dress shirt has to be bright white and should be made for the occasion. For more information on black tie dress shirts please also view our article on Tuxedo Dress Shirts. The bow tie should be solid black (or midnight blue if the dark blue tuxedo is chosen) and patternless. Creating Unique Style for Black Tie Dress The key to create your own personal character lies in the little things. When looking at the jacket you can chose different lapel styles, for example. While the peak lapel is the classic, and probably the style most men will choose, the shawl lapel will create a unique touch. Next, think about the dress shirt. You can choose different collar styles as well as pleated and non-pleated fronts. If a pleated front shirt is chosen then do not wear a waistcoat but a cummerbund - two other accessories that are perfect to distinguish your ensemble from everyone else's. Besides the classic clothing pieces there are some accessories you may want to consider. The most common one are cufflinks and shirt stud buttons. If you choose to wear these, then make sure they match in color and design. Still not enough of a "unique" look? Then how about adding a pocket watch (worn only with a waistcoat) as well as the opera scarf. The opera scarf is never tied but worn loosely over the shoulders. It is a clothing item that men traditionally wore so that they could offer it to their date during the Opera intermission. Then there are different types of footwear ranging from classic oxfords to patent leather slip-ons.
